I used a similar mixed media approach to Anselm Kiefer. I used fabrics and dried grasses and flower to create textural effects.

Anselm Kiefer’s mixed media approach inspired me to try applying real objects to the surface of my work.

I tried to create textural effects using different painting techniques but was not satisfied with the results. Inspired by Anselm Kiefer’s mixed media approach, I added fabrics, dried grasses and flower to surfaces. I was really pleased with the final development study, which gives the dramatic, textural effect I was trying to create.

I made sketch models with card and tape which could be taken apart and changed quickly. I photographed these from different viewpoints. This created images with interesting and varied compositions.

I made a series of sketch models with card and tape and photographed these to show my design as it developed.

I made sketch models using card and tape. Using the tape meant I could deconstruct the models and make changes which I photographed as I went along. Each time I changed the design, I tried to make the chair more functional, thinking about how it could be more comfortable for the user. The model-making definitely helped me to come up with a functional design which also looked good.
